Description
Flange Adaptor Pipe Fittings Description
Flange adaptors are used to connect pipes and valves of different diameters or to change the end connection of a piping run. They provide a transition between two mating flanges that have different sizes or ratings.
• Available in various styles – concentric reducers, eccentric reducers, tapped reducers, etc. Concentric reducers maintain a straight flow path while eccentric reducers cause a change in flow direction.
• Flange adaptors come in various sizes to match the pipe diameters. Common sizes range from 1/2″ to 72″ in various schedule/ratings. Special sizes can also be fabricated.
• Typically made from forged materials. Manufacturing processes include forging, machining, heat treatment and testing to ensure design standards compliance.
• Flange faces are often serrated or ring-type joint to improve gasket sealing. Some designs have oval bolt holes to accommodate misalignment.
• Pressures ratings vary – standard 150#, 300#, 600#, 900# or 1500# pressure classes based on material and design. Higher rated adapters are available.
• Flange adapters are used in applications like connecting pumps and valves to pipes, changing pipe sizes in pipe runs, retrofitting existing piping with new equipment/flanges.
• Allow piping pre-fabrication and minimize need for custom on-site fabrication. Useful for the chemical, petrochemical, oil/gas, power and other industries.
• Proper installation requirements include appropriate gasket selection, lubrication, bolt torquing and flange alignment to prevent leaks and damage.
Types of Flange Adaptor Pipe Fittings
1.Socket weld flange adaptors: These fittings are designed to be welded to the end of a pipe.(above image)
2.Threaded flange adaptors: These fittings are designed to be screwed onto the end of a pipe.
3.Slip-on flange adaptors: These fittings are designed to slip over the end of a pipe and then be secured with a clamp or welding.(above image)
4.Blind flange adaptors: These fittings are used to seal off the end of a pipe.
